Biography

Mortarium is a all female Doom Metal band from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Three woman united in the purpose of expressing their innermost feelings through their music. The current lineup remains as Juliane Sousa, Tainá Domingues and Vivi Alves.

Rio de Janeiro, fall of 2008. Tainá Domingues, Ana Paula Rodrigues, Juliane Sousa and Raquel Amara, joined their forces to start a Doom Metal project to fill the absence of bands with a darker proposal. The following year, for personal reasons, Raquel Amara left the project.

In 2010, Natáliah Rodrigues takes the vocals duties, contributing to the band’s characterization and identity. That same year, Mortarium made their first live performances, receiving an excellent feedback from the crowd. In 2011, Natáliah and Ana Paula Rodrigues were no longer part of Mortarium. Thus, the current lineup remains as Juliane Sousa, Tainá Domingues, Vivi Alves and Laiane Gaião.

Under positive and supportive comments, the first song “Celebrate Eternity” is launched in 2010, marking the official start of Mortarium’s trajectory, which gradually have been gaining space in the Doom/Dark Metal scene of Rio and Brazil.

After lineup changes, in 2012, Mortarium releases the single “The Awakening of the Spirit,” thus marking the departure of former members.

Currently, the band has solidified their lineup as a trio joined by Vivi Alves (bass and vocals), Julie Sousa (Drums) and Tainá Domingues (Guitar and guttural vocals). The trio keep on composing and performing in Rio de Janeiro and in some cities, thus aiming to launch their first demo.
